FRIDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Farmington topples Lake Orion in triple overtime; Everest wins league, Oxford avenges Groves

LAKE ORION — Lake Orion’s boys basketball team has not had much success in overtime games this season. The Dragons suffered another blow Friday night.

Less than two weeks after dropping a double-overtime loss to OAA Blue Division leader Rochester, Lake Orion fell prey to Farmington Friday night by losing to the Falcons, 72-65, in triple overtime in league play.

Lake Orion led 45-38 entering the fourth quarter only to see Farmington storm back with a 17-10 fourth quarter to force overtime.

Both teams scored five apiece in the first overtime session and three points each in the second overtime stanza. In the third OT, Farmington went on a 9-2 run to improve to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Bryan Green scored 22, Chris Morgan added 21 points and Chris Hare also reached double figures with 15 points for Farmington.

Both John McCarty and Chaz Miller scored 19 points each and Brad Watterworth added 18 points for Lake Orion (9-6, 2-3), which was missing one starter.

CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 56, MARINE CITY CARDINAL MOONEY 29: Everest Collegiate kept its position of first place in the CHSL Intersectional Division with this win Friday night at home.

Dalton Smith scored seven for Cardinal Mooney, which was held to just six field goals in the contest.

Richie Cross and Donald Allen both scored 10 points apiece to lead a balanced effort.

Ban Marcial and Blake Beauchamp both scored seven points each for the Mountaineers (13-3, 8-1), who own at least of a share of the league crown with one game to go.

Everest tucked Cardinal Mooney (4-11, 3-6) to bed early with a 21-3 lead after the first quarter and a 33-11 edge by the half.

OXFORD 54, BIRMINGHAM GROVES 50: Oxford avenged its sole OAA Blue Division loss Friday with this home win over Groves.

Mark Hazelwood scored 21 points for Oxford and Ben Magdaleno added 12 points, making a trio of three-pointers.

Grant Henderson scored 16 and Emmanuel Thomas added 12 points for Groves.

Groves led 11-6 after the first quarter before Oxford heated up with a 16-9 run in the second frame for a 22-20 lead at the half.

Both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter with Oxford (11-4, 5-1) holding a 17-15 deck of cards in the final frame en route to the four-point win.

“This guarantees our first winning season since 2006 and we’re only two wins shy of our modern day record of 13 wins,” said third-year Oxford coach Paul Marfia. “We are in first place in our league right now with some pretty big games coming up the next couple of weeks. We have Hazel Park and they are always tough and we have (Bloomfield Hills) Lahser on the road in less than two weeks. We still have a shot at the league title, but we have to win that one. That game is huge.”

PONTIAC 80, SOUTHFIELD-LATHRUP 70: Four Phoenix reached double figures in this OAA Red win Friday.

Jarod Jones scored 25 to lead Pontiac. Mark Hover and Dijon Cogdell added 14 points apiece and Jamarea Samples scored 12 for the Phoenix (11-5, 5-3).

Joathan Williams notched a game-high 29 points, Jordan Denham added 14 points and Jamal Lyles scored 12 for Lathrup (11-5, 5-3).

ROCHESTER 57, STONEY CREEK 34: Rochester maintained its presence atop the OAA Blue Division despite training at the half Friday.

The Falcons were down21-17 at the half before going on a40-13 run after halftime for their 14^th straight win.

“It wasn’t pretty for us,”: offered Rochester coach John Pleasant. “Stoney Creek came out and hit some shots and played some pretty good defense on us. They outplayed us in the first half, for sure. In the second half we started to play better defense and we shot the ball a lot better. We started to attack the basket more and we’re a lot more aggressive.”

Rochester’s 20-2 third quarter turned the four-point deficit into a 37-23 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Ben Termowski drilled four 3-pointers for 12 points for the Cougars (0-15, 0-6).

Taylor Perry scored 19, Arben Camaj added 10 points and 10 rebounds and Paris Pereira followed with nine points for Rochester (14-1, 6-0).

ROCHESTER ADAMS 63, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 52: Adams remained in third place in the OAA White Division with this home win Friday.

Leading 31-29 at the half, Adams used a 14-7 run in the third quarter for a 45-36 advantage and closed with an 18-16 surge.  Highlanders

Zack Littleson scored a game-high 21 points and Akhemji Williams added 16 points for the Highlanders. James Berger and John Neidhart also scored eight points apiece for Adams (8-6 4-2).

Deonte Randolph scored 20 and Landen Tenwolde added 13 points for Avondale (5-9, 1-5).

TROY 91, BERKLEY 53: It was all Troy Friday as the Colts hounded the Bears and galloped to this lopsided OAA White Division victory.

James Young pumped in a game-high 27 points to lead Troy. Larry Sylvester added a career-high 20 points and Craig Duggan followed with eight points for Troy.
Troy raced out to a 27-11 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Colts (11-4, 5-1) added a 21-12 second quarter to its resume and led 48-23 at the half before subbing freely in the second half.

Damon Eldridge led Berkley (2-13, 0-8) with 13 points.
