THURSDAY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lake Orion keeps pace with win over Harrison; Oxford rolls over Athens
LAKE ORION — Lake Orion overcame a first-quarter deficit by putting forth a stingy defensive effort that yielded only 14 points during the final three quarters in Thursday’s 37-027 victory over Farmington Harrison.
Harrison led 13-9 after the first quarter, only to see Lake Orion go on a 8-3 spurt for a 17-16 led at the half.
In the third quarter, the Dragons held a 6-5 edge for a 23-21 lead and closed out the game with a 14-6 run during the fourth quarter.
Marissa Cotton scored 10 and Joslyn Wilcox added seven pints for Harrison (8–11, 6-7).
Marisa Secontine scored a game-high 17 for Lake Orion. Nicole Krier added nine points and Laura Turnbull chipped in with seven points for the Dragons (13-5, 9-3), ho trail Rochester Adams by one game with two contests to go.
OXFORD 38, TROY ATHENS 21: Oxford put the defensive clamps down on Athens Thursday for the 17-point OAA White Division win.
Shelby Davis scored 13 and Miranda Murphy added nine points for the Wildcats (9-9, 7-5), who are now in third place in the division.
Sinclair Russell scored 11 for Athens (3-15, 1-11).
WEST BLOOMFIELD 55, PONTIAC 54: West Bloomfield avenged an earlier defeat to Pontiac with this one-point OAA Red Division win Thursday at home.
Sydni Davis scored 22 to lead the Lakers. Ashley Ziegler added 14 points for West Bloomfield (7-10, which led 25-21 at the half.
Amanda Miller scored 19 for Pontiac. Nia Barton added 13 points and Meshia Smith chipped in with 12 points for the Phoenix (9-9), who outscored the Laker, 33-30, after halftime.
