CLARKSTON — Since the inception of the Oakland Activities Association in 1994-95, Clarkston has posted one fine record in boys basketball. In fact, no team has won more league titles in the 18-year history of the mega conference than the Wolves.

Clarkston added another league championship to its resume Friday night, toasting Southfield, 61-43, to claim the OAA Red Division crown.

Clarkston (16-2, 10-0) has now won or shared six straight titles in the OAA Division I/Red Division beginning in the 2006-07 school year and have claimed 13 league titles in an 18-year span. The Wolves won four straight OAA-I titles from 1995-98, then after a four-year drought, climbed back on top with three more titles from 2003-2005.

Against Southfield, senior guard Nick Tatu scored 17 points on the strength of five three-pointers to lead Clarkston, which has now won 22 league championships in coach Dan Fife’s 30-season tenure at the helm. The Wolves led 33-20 at the half.

Matt Delllinger added 10 points, Mitch Beanziger scored nine and Chance Huth twined seven points for Clarkston. Southfield (7-11, 3-7) was paced by Earl Swift’s 14 points. Brandon Bean chipped in with eight pints for the Bluejays.

Clarkston won a Greater Oakland Activities League crown in 1982-83, Fife’s first season, then added GOAL crowns each year from 1986 through 1992, a seven-year run. The Wolves added a GOAL Championship in 1993-94, the final year of the GOAL.

In the OAA, Clarkston has remained in the league’s top division for all 18 seasons, with Pontiac Northern, Pontiac Central, Southfield and Southfield Lathrup also winning or sharing the crowns since the inception of the league.
