GIRLS SOCCER: Adams avenges defending OAA-Red champion Athens;Troy blanks Avondale
TROY— In a key OAA Red Division girls soccer match last May, Troy Athens upended Rochester 1-0 after a goal in the first minute.
When the two longtime rivals met again Tuesday, Adams was able to gain a measure of revenge with a 1-0 league victory over the Red Hawks.
Athens won the league title last season with a 9-1-0 record, with Adams finishing second at 8-1-1.
Merlin Beckwith scored the game’s only goal in the 18th minute for the Highlanders, who posted a 9-1 shots advantage over the defending league champs. Adams, ranked fourth in the state in Division 1, moved to 2-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league play.
Lexy Lewandowski notched the shutout on one save, while Danielle Cooper had eight saves, including a pair from point-blank range, for Athens (3-2-0, 0-2-0).

TROY 5, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 0: Irene young notched a pair of goals Tuesday as Troy blanked Avondale in this OAA Red Division contest in Auburn Hills.
Jen Busk, Jenny Calberhof and Madison Hirsch also scored for Troy, while Allison Holland and Addison Bouzide shared the shutout on three saves.
