FOOTBALL: Clarkston rallies past Stoney Creek to remain unbeaten
ROCHESTER HILLS — Halloween is still six weeks away, but unbeaten Clarkston received quite a scare Friday night against Rochester Stoney Creek.
The state-ranked Wolves rallied with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to upend the Cougars 28-21 in OAA Red division play.
Ian Erikson, the OAA-Red’s leading rusher this season, scored with 1:47 left on a 5-yard run to put Clarkston (5-0, 4-0) up for good.
No. 1 had tied it on a 55-yard sprint earlier in the quarter.
Erikson staked Clarkston to a 7-0 lead with a 10-yard run in the first quarter and No. 5 pushed the Wolves back on top in the second frame when he scored on a 65-yard sprint.
Erikson finished with 20 carries for 140 yards for Clarkston.
Kyle Bricknell scored on a 4-yard scamper to tie the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter and Alex Schnurr helped the Cougars (2-3, 2-2) go into the half tied at 14-14 when he hauled in an 11-yard pass from Sean Scullen.
The Schnurr and Scullen combination hooked up again in the third quarter to put Stoney Creek up 21-14, this time on a 58-yard pass play.
Stoney Creek chalked up 292 yards of offense. Scullen had 13 carries for 81 yards and added 96 passing yards. Schnurr had 68 receiving yards on three catches, added 36 yards on the ground, passed for 27 more yards and booted three extra points for the Cougars.
