ROCHESTER HILLS — Clarkston didn’t have the services of All-State running back Ian Eriksen Friday night. The Wolves compensated elsewhere.
Clarkston never trailed in handing host Rochester its second straight OAA Red Division loss, racing out to a 21-0 halftime lead and rolling to a 34-13 victory over the Falcons.
DJ Zezula three a trio of touchdown passes, including a 21-yard strike to Jack McKillop and 9-yard scoring toss to Shane Holler to help Clarkston (2-1, 2-0) take a 14-0 lead. Caine Watlington, who scored the third first-half touchdown on a 9-yard run, also caught a 32-yard dart from Zezula in the third period.
Tim Cason returned an interception for Clarkston’s fifth touchdown. Shane Hynes finished 4-of-5 on extra points and Zezula finished 9-for-13 passing for 125 yards for the Wolves.
Demetrius Magee caught a 9-yard pass and a 3-yard pass, both from Kevin Byrd, to account for Rochester’s two scoring drives.
LAKE ORION 49, WEST BLOOMFIELD 12: Lake Orion remained perfect on the season with this convincing OAA Red Division rout Friday over visiting West Bloomfield.
Dominic Giovinazzo led Lake Orion’s balanced offense with 94 rushing yards on 14 carries, which included a 10-yard touchdown run that gave the Dragons (3-0, 2-0) a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Matt Krause (4-yard run), Chris Leigh (1-yard run) and Corey Ester (2-yard run) also scored in the opening 12 minutes.
Corey Ester added a 14-yard TD run, Connor Grant hooked up with Zach Green for a 55-yard touchdown and Cameron Hostiz hauled in a 15-yard dart from Drew Gasey to account for Lake Orion’s other scoring drive. Luke Vezialcqla was 7-for-7 on extra points.
Brad Mosley scored on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter, while Robert Powell caught a Danny Jackson 18-yard pass in the third quarter for West Bloomfield (1-2, 0-2).
SOUTHFIELD CHRISTIAN 44, ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 8: Southfield Christian made quite a statement Friday in posting this lopsided MIAC victory over the Crusaders.
The Eagles led 16-0 at the end of the first quarter and held a commanding 37-0 lead at the half. Southfield Christian did not give up points until the fourth quarter.
Harding Fears opened the scoring by blocking a punt into the end zone and also recovered a safety for an 8-0 lead. Jonathan Springer added 10-yard run, with Andrew McFerrin hauling in the two-point conversion pass for a 16-0 advantage.
Robert Banks added a 10-yard TD run, Kameron Garner caught a 9-yard strike from Springer, while Springer followed with a 3-yard plunge and Jack Harrington returned a blocked punt for the Eagles’ final score.
Banks had 104 rushing yards, while contributing 10 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery for Southfield Christian (3-0, 1-0). Fears added an interception and forced fumble for the Eagles.
Nick Gapski scored on a 10-yard run to account for Northwest’s only touchdown. The Crusaders slipped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 42, ROYAL OAK 7: Joshuwa Holloman scored on runs of 12, 64, 18 and 3 yards and the Yellowjackets bounced back from a loss last week to Birmingham Seaholm to roll past Royal Oak in OAA Blue Division play.
Avondale led 21-0 at the half and 35-0 nothing heading into the fourth quarter, before both teams traded off seven points in the fourth frame.
Chase Lalla added a 22-yard touchdown run and Kendrick Thomas caught a 45-yard TD pass from Travis James in the rout Julian Peppas hit all six extra points for Avondale (2-1, 1-1).
Daniel Smith scored on a 10-yard run for Royal Oak (1-2, 1-1).
