GIRLS BASKETBALL: Adams remains perfect by thrashing Groves
ROCHESTER HILLS — Back in the 1990s, Rochester Adams developed into a state powerhouse girls basketball program by using a barrage of shooters to keep opposing teams in a confusing whirlwind. Today, the Highlanders, who are off to their best start in several years, are using a dominant inside game.
Adams only sank a trio of three-pointers and pounded the ball into the paint consistently Friday and rolled over Birmingham Groves, 56-21, in an OAA White Division contest.
After leading only 7-6 entering the second quarter, Adams ventured on a 19-6 trail in the second quarter to open up a 26-12 lead at the half. The Highlanders’ defense never allowed Groves to score more than six points in any quarter and eventually won by 35 points.
Adams (7-0, 5-0) outscored Groves 8-4 in the third quarter for a 34-16 advantage and closed with a 12-5 run.
Amber Jamison led a balanced attack with 10 points to pace Adams. Jenny Rosonke added nine points, while both Skyler Mills and Raiven Owusu scored eight for the Highlanders.
Erin Elfimoff scored 10 for Groves (0-7, 0-5).
