PLYMOUTH — The good news for Auburn Hills Oakland Christian is that the Lancers are unbeaten on the boys basketball season. The even better news is that Oakland Christian is still not at full strength.
The Lancers moved to 6-0 on the year, 3-0 in the MIAC Blue Division with a 61-46 triumph Friday over Plymouth Christian
Josh Peterson and freshman DJ Stevens both scored 13 points to pace Oakland Christian. Drew Perrin added nine points.
“It’s nice because we are playing well and we are getting better and we still don’t have everyone eligible,” said Oakland Christian coach Dennis Hopkins. “When we get Charles (Heyden) in the mix next week, it will be interesting to see how it works out.
“He seems to want to be a vocal leader in practice and he’s a very good (combo) guard,” added Hopkins. “I think if we continue to gel and play well with Charles in there, we could be a very good team. We are still a young team. We have some freshman and a lot of underclassmen on this team.”
Even without one of its key players, Hopkins has been pleased with his team at this point.
“I like our balance,” Hopkins said. “When we played (Birmingham) Roeper last week, they had a guy score 22 off their 28 points. We had a bunch of guys between eight and 13 points. We are spreading it around,” said Hopkins.
Eric Jippling scored 19 points for Plymouth Christian (3-3, 2-2).
