OAA RED DIVISION FOOTBALL: Rochester cruises past Pontiac; Athens, Clarkston pick up wins
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester won for the fourth time in five games Friday, this time coming in the form of a 30-13 decision over Pontiac in OAA Red Division football play.
Rochester scored seven in the first quarter, nine points in the second and seven points each in the third and fourth quarters to down the Phoenix. Pontiac scored a touchdown in each of the final two quarters.
James Ward had 15 carries for 110 yards and one touchdown and Jay Shakir added 1-03 yards on 12 touches and scored two TDs for Rochester (4-1, 3-1), which remained in third place in the eight-school OAA-Red.
Shakir scored on runs of 4 and 39 yards, Ward added a2-yard plunge, Lucas Dishinger scored on a 2-yard run and Schwan Shadaia recorded a second-quarter safety.
John Doroshewitz and Miles Dale each had two extra points for the Falcons, who are 4-1 for only the second time in 15 years but for the second time in coach Erik Vernon’s four-year tenure.
Jody Harrison scored on a pair of touchdown runs for Pontiac (1-4, 1-3).
TROY ATHENS 24, WEST BLOOMFIELD 16: Athens captured its first win of the season Friday with this decision over the Phoenix.
CLARKSTON 28, ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 21: Clarkston cashed in a late touchdown to down Stoney Creek in OAA Red Division play.
