BOYS BASKETBALL: Roeper cools off Lutheran Northwest; Rochester Hills, PAOE both remain perfect

ROCHESTER HILLS — Defense was the name of the game Thursday, except for Abe Hashwi.

The junior guard from Birmingham Roeper swished a trio of 3-pointersand finished with a game-high 15 points to lead the Roughriders to a 37-34 road victory over host Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest in MIAC Blue Division boys basketball play.

Jon Kaufman added eight points for the Roughriders (5-5, 3-3).

Nathan Drews scored 13 points to lead Lutheran Northwest (3-5, 1-4).

ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN 64, TROY CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 27: Chuck Wagner had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Rochester Hills Christian remained perfect on the season at 15-0 with this non-league win Thursday over the Defenders.

Marquez Hatcher added 13 points and six steals and Aaron Berry followed with 10 points and six rebounds for the Eagles.

PONTIAC ACADEMY OF EXCELLENCE 97, FLINT MADISON ACADEMY 36: This road victory was by 61 points, the biggest in school history, and the Cougars posted another dominating effort.

Deon Sears had 32 points and 21 rebounds to lead Academy (10-0). Sa’Vonne Keys added 22 points and 12 rebounds and Ja’Shaun Goldsmith followed with 17 points and 11 rebounds for PAOE.
