GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rochester Hills clinches third straight FBAC crown; Avondale rolls West Bloomfield; Rochester thumps Lake Orion
ROCHESTER HILLS — After winning only one league title in girls basketball in the previous four decades, Rochester Hills Christian put the finishing touches on its third straight conference title Tuesday night.
The Eagles closed with a 10-4 run to upend visiting Troy Bethany Christian, 38-31, to clinch the Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference Black Division crown. Rochester Hills (9-3, 5-0) had won two straight FBAC red Division crowns before the league moved to three divisions this season and renamed the top division the Black Division.
Sophomore guard Jenna Porter scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles. Sophomore guard Ashley Parker added nine points and a game-high 17 rebounds for Rochester Hills Christian.
Junior guard Sarah Bishop scored nine points for Troy Bethany Christian.
AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 57, WEST BLOOMFIELD 44: Avondale outscored the Lakers in the first three quarters and cruised to this 13-point OAA Red Division home win Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets outscored West Bloomfield 14-7 after the first quarter and used a 20-13 edge in the second frame to build a 34-20 lead at the half. The Yellowjackets added a 19-10 run in the third quarter to blow the game open with a 53-30 advantage.
Daja Whiteside scored 22 and Hannah Susick added eight points for Avondale (5-6, 4-3).
Ashley Ziegler scored 12 and Kheri Motley added 10 points for West Bloomfield.
ROCHESTER 43, LAKE ORION 14: It was all Rochester Tuesday, as the Falcons built a 25-8 lead at the half and cruised to the OAA White Division win over the ailing Dragons.
Zhana Randolph scored 11 and Aubrey Konal chipped in with eight points for the Falcons (8-5, 4-5).
Nicole Krier scored five for Lake Orion (2-10, 2-9), which made only five field goals and failed to score more than four points in a single quarter.
FARMINGTON HILLS HARRISON 48, OXFORD 27: Harrison forged a tie atop the OAA White Division standings with this 21-point home rout of the Wildcats.
Harrison led 14-8 after the first quarter and outscored Oxford 34-19 over the final three periods.
Marissa Cotton scored 23 points, making 5-of-6 free throws and four three-pointers for Harrison (12-1, 9-1).
Kyla Roland added eight points for the Hawks.
Shelby Davis scored six and Jessica Murphy and Victoria Bearse five points each for Oxford (10-2, 9-1).
HOLLY 38, WHITE LAKE LAKELAND 35: Holly bounced back from a road loss to Fenton with this three-point non-league home win Tuesday.
Allyssa Copley scored 12 and Kaitlyn Smith chipped in with 11 points for Holly (10-2), which rallied back from a 23-16 halftime deficit with a 22-12 second half.
Amanda Lock scored 20 and Dominique Zigo added 11 points for Lakeland.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 34, LAPEER FAITH HOME SCHOOL 30: Erin Washington scored 15 and Becky VanSloten added 12 points in the Lancers’ non-league home win Tuesday.
Holly Shepard scored eight for Lapeer Faith, which led 11-5 after the first quarter.
ROCHESTER ADAMS 52, BIRMINGHAM GROVES 40: Adams used a 31-14 first half to propel itself to a lopsided OAA White Division win.
Lauren Finkelstine led a balanced Adams effort with 11 points. Amber Jamison and Brittany Boyle added nine points each and Hannah Grieb scored eight for the Highlanders (9-4, 8-2).
Jordan Blackwell scored 16 and Brianna Rowe added 13 points for Groves.
