Auburn Hills Avondale
HEAD COACH: Tommy Kurczewski, 11th season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 26-9, 12-3 OAA blue Division (first).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Troy (3-2); lost to Rochester Adams in D-1 district finals (7-3).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA-White Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Craig Zimmerman, sr. OF-P (Hit .308); Drew Petty, sr. SS-P; Tim Foley, sr. 1B.
OTHER RETURNEES: Ben Beckas, jr. P-3B; Jacob Adams, jr. P-3B; Joe Delpup, jr. OF; Alex Kavka, sr. C; Spencer Smith, sr. C-P-INF (injured last season).
KEY NEWCOMERS: Erik Koberstein, sr. OF; Mike Kesteloot, sr. P; Ethan Warlick, jr. OF; Travis Janes, fr. OF-P-SS; Brad Kavka, fr. P-1B; Chris Andrus, fr. 2B.
KEY LOSSES: AJ Susick, Mitch Robinson, Matt Andrus, Dylan Ahern, Joe Davison
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Avondale has been very competitive the past 6-7 years under Kurczewski. With only three returning starters, the table has not been set for high expectations, as many newer players will shuffle into the lineup and reserves from last year’s team will see expanded roles. Time will tell if Avondale can find another winning recipe that aided a league championship last season and several district titles in the past decade. Finally, Avondale will get an entire season on its new home diamond complex.
Auburn Hills Oakland Christian
HEAD COACH: Brad Pyke, fourth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 19-7, 10-0 MIAC Red Division (first).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: MIAC Blue Division; MHSAA Division 4.
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: MIAC Blue Division, Division 4.
RETURNING STARTERS: Collin O’Connor, sr. INF; Jack Lee, jr. INF-P Stu Sutherland, jr. P-OF; Chris Golus, sr. 3B; JJ Schomer, jr. 2B-P; Josh Crane, sr. P-OF.
OTHER RETURNEES: Robby Carson, sr. OF-INF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Chad Christian, soph. P-INF.
KEY LOSSES: Luke Combs, SS-P (All-League; League MVP); Jake Vandervent, 1B; Cliff Baxter, P-OF; Rafael Eigenmann, C.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Lancers were 6-22 two years ago but righted the ship to finish 19-7 last season and win the school’s first league championship since the mid-1990s. Oakland Christian was granted a promotion to the MIAC Blue Division, where facing state powerhouse programs will be the norm. If the Lancers can develop enough pitching after graduating six players, they will retain their competitive edge.
Clarkston
HEAD COACH: Phil Price, 15th season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 22-8, 10-5 OA Red-North Division (second).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 district semifinals to Lake Orion (10-0).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red-North Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Ryan Rea, jr. 1B-P; Nick Mazzoni, jr. CF; Ryan Slaughter, sr. P-SS-1B; Jacob Laporte, jr. OF; Joe Popp, soph. OF; Alex Peck, jr. 2B-P.
OTHER RETURNEES: Jordan Cox, sr. OF; Kyle Savoie, sr. OF-INF; Nick Money, jr. INF; Mitch Smith, jr.INF-OF; Jacob Osbrey, sr. P; Sam Martin, jr. 2B; DJ Zezula, soph. OF; Sean Martens, sr. OF; Jacob Berry, sr. OF; Jordan Robak, sr. INF; Wes Sielaff, sr. OF; Eric Tait, sr. INF.
KEY LOSSES: Dylan Peck, C (All-League); Jake Forsten, INF-P (St. Clair CC); Alex Barta, OF; Chris Dickey, OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Clarkston fought through a rebuilding season in 2012 with only four seniors and still finished a fine 22-8. The Wolves were able to do so thanks to a deep well of talent that was waiting in the wings after graduating 12 players from the 2011 squad that reached the Sweet 16. This year’s team has all the makings of a winner. But lumped in a loaded league and district and Clarkston will find the going tough in terms of championships.
Clarkston Springfield Christian
HEAD COACH: James Day, sixth season (non-consecutive).
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: Played junior-varsity schedule.
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Did not enter Michigan Association of Christian Schools postseason tournament.
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference; Michigan Association of Christian Schools.
RETURNING STARTERS:
OTHER RETURNEES:
KEY NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES:
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Eagles have small number, mostly in grades 7-10 and will again compete with mostly a junior varsity schedule. The school is trying to build baseball back up after dropping the program three years ago.
Holly
HEAD COACH: Benny Jackson, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 22-10, 11-5 Flint Metro League (second).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Milford (6-5); lost to Hartland in D-1 district finals (8-3).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Flint Metro League; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Brent Smiles, sr. 1B (All-League Second Team); Justis Kerner, sr. SS; Alec Miller, sr. 2B (All-League Second Team); Chris Green, sr. P-OF (All-League First Team); Joel Perry, jr. P-CF (All-League First Team).
OTHER RETURNEES: Austin Cavender, sr.; Lance Copley, sr.; Mason Kerner, sr.; Richard Kowalski, sr.; Hunter Lewis, sr.; Drew Eggleston, jr.
KEY LOSSES: David McNeely, C (All-League First Team); Blake Ordiway, OF (All-League First Team).
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Bronchos won 20 wins for the first time in decades last season and reached the district finals for the first time in 20 years. With several returnees back in uniform, holly is setting its goals for the school’s first league championship in 40 years this spring. There are 11 returning players on the roster and nine seniors overall.
Lake Orion
HEAD COACH: Andy Schramek, 15th season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 30-9, 13-2 OAA North Division (first place).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Won D-1 district championship; lost in regional finals to Hartland (7-1).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red-North Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Nick Deeg, sr. P-OF (Central Michigan); Roman Kuster, sr. C; Nick Vogelmeier, sr. INF: Nolan Page, sr. INF; Ryan Lambrecht, sr. OF-INF; Brandon Clements, sr. OF; Brad Schaenzer, P-INF; Josh Bays, jr. P-INF.
OTHER RETURNEES: Connor Grant, sr. OF. Dan Hunter, jr. OF; Zach Maresh, sr. OF-INF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Christian James, jr.; Miles Hardy, soph.; Joe Turnbull, soph.; Ken Guldi, soph.
KEY LOSSES: Dalton Oveson, INF-P; Jacob Gardner, P-OF (Hillsdale College); Derek Delauara, sr. INF (not playing).
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: After graduating only two players total and losing three players from a team that won league and district titles and reached the Sweet 16,expectations are soaring for the Dragons. Lake Orion has one of the state’s top pitching staffs that, if they can escape one of the state’s tougher D-1 districts, could be enough to carry them to another deep postseason run. The Dragons opened the season in the top-10 and will likely spend a lot of weeks in that location. This could be the school’s best team since the 2007 state championship squad.
Lake Orion Baptist
HEAD COACH: Cole Welby, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in MACS state quarterfinals to Rochester Hills Christian.
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference; Michigan Association of Christian Schools.
RETURNING STARTERS: Mark Dewar, jr. C-P-SS; Jason Noruk, jr. P-1B; Micah Bryson, soph. 2B; Jacob Noruk, soph. 3B-P; Josh Jenkins, soph. OF; Ben Case, sr. OF; Andrew Schwartz, jr. OF-2B.
OTHER RETURNEES: Luke Strunk, soph. OF; Daniel Harris, soph. OF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: None.
KEY LOSSES: James Noruk, SS-C-P (All-League); Eli Cone, 1B-OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Lions dipped significantly last season with a young team. With only two players departing to graduation, better fortunes could be on the horizon.
Ortonville Brandon
HEAD COACH: Joel Dohm.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 19-15, 8-8 Flint Metro League (fifth).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Davison in D-1 district semifinals (8-3).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Flint Metro League; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Jack Hranec, sr. P-1B (All-League First Team, All-District); Max Wardell, jr. P-OF; Jake Sutherland, jr. P-INF; Austin Macias, jr. C.
OTHER RETURNEES: None.
KEY NEWCOMERS: There are 11 new players on the Blackhawks’ varsity roster this season vying for playing time.
KEY LOSSES: Derek Darling, OF; Zack Fernandez, C-INF: Ryan Barnes, SS (all-League Second Team); Ben Crawford, OF-P (All-League First Team); Michael Tagliavia, OF-P-1B; J.T Stricklin, OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: There are only four players back, all starters, from last year’s team, so new opportunity awaits several eager prospects. Brandon does have three quality pitchers back, which should keep them quite competitive, especially in the early going of the campaign. Wardell already owns a no-hitter this season.
Oxford
HEAD COACH: Jeff Willis, fifth season (43-74).
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 12-24, 5-10 OAA Red-North (fifth).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Waterford Kettering (2-1); lost to Lake Orion in D-1 district finals (6-4).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red-North Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Nate Morris, jr. P-INF (committed to Michigan State); Nate Brubaker, sr.1B-P; P.J. Piesko, jr. P-OF-1B; Colin McGreen, sr. CF; Brennan Orr, sr. OF-C.
OTHER RETURNEES: Josh Arndt, jr. C; Travis Shufflin, jr. OF-U; Ryan Kitching, sr. SS-2B; Vinnie Griffith, sr. U.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Several newcomers on roster.
KEY LOSSES: Kyle Hartwick, C (All-League).
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: With one of the state’s top junior pitchers and a host of returnees, Oxford is continuing to climb its way out of a couple of rough seasons, which included just two wins in 2011. Last season the wildcats won 12 ball games and should see vast improvement this season. Oxford is in one of the state’s top districts, so if they can earn a title, then they could be able to make a long run.
Pontiac
HEAD COACH: Eddie DeWalt.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 pre-district to Troy Athens (6-5, 12 innings).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Gold Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Dazen Cole, jr. P-INF (All-League; committed to Central Michigan).
OTHER RETURNEES:
KEY NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES:
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES:
Pontiac Academy of Excellence
HEAD COACH:
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Madison Heights Madison (23-3); Def. Mt. Clemens (15-14); lost to Madison Heights Bishop Foley in D-3 district finals (20-3, three innings).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Independent; MHSAA Division 3.
RETURNING STARTERS:
OTHER RETURNEES:
KEY NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES:
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES:
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep
HEAD COACH: Darren Audia,
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 19-17, 6-14 CHSL-AA Division.
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Birmingham-Detroit Country Day (7-6, 10 innings); lost to Bloomfield Hills Andover in D-2 district semifinals (7-2).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: CHSL-AA Division; MHSAA Division 2.
RETURNING STARTERS: Mike Broderick, sr. SS-P (All-Catholic); Nick George, sr.INF-P (All-League).
OTHER RETURNEES: Will Mullen, soph. P; Luke Shilling, soph. C; Aiden Cullen, jr. OF; Mike Wayne, jr. INF; Nathan Cowden, sr. C-INF; Tom Michelutti, sr. INF-P; Jacob Conry, jr. INF; Dan Hogan, jr. OF; Jed Shilling, jr. OF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Nick Swanson, jr. INF-P; Cory Czajowski, fr. INF; Matt Sollmer, fr. INF; Joe Carballo, sr. OF; Brian Pieciak, jr. P; Anthony Gunn, soph. P-OF (sat out last season after transferring over from Ortonville Brandon at the semester break).
KEY LOSSES: Matt Avromov, INF (All-State First Team; Lake Erie College).
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Notre Dame Prep lost seven starters to graduation, but return nine other players that were on the varsity roster. Throw in six newcomers, including one player that had to sit out last season due to the transfer rule, and the Fighting Irish has a nice mix. Will it translate into a winning season? Time will tell.
Rochester
HEAD COACH: Eric Magiera, fifth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 15-19-2, 4-9-2 OAA Red-North Division (sixth).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Utica (4-3, nine innings); lost to Rochester Stoney Creek in D-1 district semifinals (5-0).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red-North Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Max Harper, soph. SS-2B; Mitch Halsey, soph. LF-P; Andrew Bauer, jr. CF-P; Matt Beckstrom, sr. 1B-P; Spiro Pliakos, jr. 2B-OF.
OTHER RETURNEES: Connor Pacella, jr. P-INF; Jack Devine, sr. P-INF; Ryan Mahan, sr. OF; John Doroshewitz, sr. OF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Mitch weber, soph. DH-INF.
KEY LOSSES: Evan Susnick, P-INF; Justin Bommarito, C-INF; Shane Sullivan, C-OF; John Michelon, INF-P; Mike Klotz, P-INF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Falcons ventured through a rebuilding campaign last season with a roster that featured a handful of sophomores and freshmen. A promising 6-2 start with a more experienced group has the Falcons flying higher on the radar. Watch for this team to possibly win a few more games this season and finish above five-hundred, even if they do not climb higher in the league.
Rochester Adams
HEAD COACH: Jeff Hall, third season (33-30-2).
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 19-15-1, 8-7 OAA Red-North Division (fourth).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Troy Athens (8-1); def. Auburn Hills Avondale in D-1 district finals (7-3); lost to Hartland in D-1 regional semifinals (4-2).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red-North Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Ben Hart, sr. 3B (hit .340, 23 RBI); C.J. Borglin, sr. LF-P; Mike Surnick, sr. 2B-P; Jack Twitty, sr. RF.
KEY LOSSES: Alex Taylor, SS (All-State); Sean Beyer, P (hold five school records in pitching); Alex Borglin, CF (Central Michigan).
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: In the past five years, Adams has returned to its former perch as being one of the area’s top programs, as evidenced by district titles the past two seasons. The Highlanders do have a solid group of returnees back in uniform. If some of the younger newcomers can fill in some large gaps left by graduation, there’s no reason to think the Highlanders will drop off.
Rochester Stoney Creek
HEAD COACH: Clint Rodger, 11th season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 22-14, 10-5 OAA Red-North Division (second).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Rochester (5-0); def. Utica Eisenhower in district finals (12-9); lost to Lake Orion in D-1 regional semifinals (4-1).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red-North Division; MHSAA Division 1
RETURNING STARTERS: Joe Cox, jr. P-INF-OF; Jake Kruk, sr. OF; Kyle Schweiger, sr. OF-P (committed to Grand Rapids CC); Eric Gilgenbach, soph. P-OF (five home runs, .430 BA as frosh.); Noah Beck, jr. SS; Justin Alor, jr. 1B.
OTHER RETUNREES: Kyle Walsh, sr. P; Dane Hathaway, sr. OF-P; Sean Scullen, jr. P-INF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Jake Hazelton, sr. P-INF; Bailey Hall, sr. P-INF; Josh Niederhauser, soph. INF-OF-P; Nick Rangos, jr. C.
KEY LOSSES: Zak Northup, OF (All-State Second Team; Hillsdale College); Niko Gonzales, C (All-State Second Team; Saginaw Valley State; four-year starter); Mike DeFrancis, P-INF; Brandon Arduino, INF-PF (Adrian College); Connor Dean, P-OF; Austin Klozk, C-INF-OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Stoney Creek finally busted through with its first district championship last season after a decade of frustration. This team lost some key components to graduation, but there is still plenty of talent in the cupboard to aid this team to another fine season. Could a league or district championship campaign be in the works?
Rochester Hills Christian
HEAD COACH: Jon Armitage, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in MACS state semifinals to Davison Faith Baptist (15-4).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference; Michigan Association of Christian Schools.
RETURNING STARTERS: Jon Armitage, sr. C-P; Jesse Montgomery, jr. 2B; Michael Migliore, jr. LF; Brandon Rodriguez, jr. OF-INF-P; Misael Hernandez, jr. SS-P.
OTHER RETURNEES:
KEY NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES: Dan Bermeister, OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: This program has made a drastic turnaround the past two years after some lean seasons. With a junior-heavy team, the Eagles should continue to rise this season and be a factor in the FBAC league race this season.
Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest
HEAD COACH: Brett Borrocci, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Kimball Landmark Academy (20-0, three innings); lost to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes in D-4 district finals (3-2).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: MIAC Blue Division; MHSAA Division 3.
RETURNING STARTERS: Justin Novack, sr. INF-P-OF; Matthew Mischley, sr. INF-P; Josh Morrison, sr. OF; Ian Wellhousen, sr. P-OF; Nick Grunewald, soph. INF.
OTHER RETURNEES: Evan Carter, sr. C-OF.
KEY NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES: Cameron Morris, OF; Colin Sheehan, 1B (Olivet College); Chad Cook, INF-P; Travis Kersten, C; Christian Woodfin, OF-P.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Northwest has been a quality Division 4 baseball program during the past decade with three regional championships, two Final Four teams and one state championship squad. That will be more difficult to repeat. Not only have the Crusaders lost a great deal of talent to graduation the past two years, but this team will bump up to Division 3 due to an enrollment hike and will be in the same district as two-time defending state champion Madison Heights Bishop Foley.
Troy
HEAD COACH: Tim Mullen, first season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 17-16, 8-7 OAA Blue Division (fourth).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Auburn Hills Avondale in D-1 district semifinals (3-2).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Blue Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Michael Thomas, sr. P-SS-2B; Justin Losey, sr. OF; Drew Braun, sr. 1B.
OTHER RETURNEES: Damon Gaurdino, sr. OF; Tommy O’Donovan, sr. C-3B; Kevin Simono, sr. C-2B; Mitch Weigand, sr. C-2B.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Alex Marshall, jr. OF; John Hunter, jr. SS-P; Nick Panella, jr. 3B-P.
KEY LOSSES: Nick Guitar, INF; Tyler Horne, NF; John Wassel, INF; Matt Oppenlander, C; Derek Verbruggen, OF; Luke McCloskey, OF; Jesse Dubay, INF; Chris Michael, P-OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Colts have their third head coach in four seasons and are searching to return to its former perch of 2004-2008, when Troy was one of the area’s top teams with a pair of long postseason runs, including the Division 1 Final Four in 2008.
Troy Athens
HEAD COACH: Mike Morris, ninth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 12-15, 4-11 OAA Blue Division (sixth).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Pontiac (6-5, 12 innings); lost to Rochester Adams in D-1 district semifinals (8-1).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Blue Division; MHSAA Division 1.
RETURNING STARTERS: Grant Sweeney, jr. P-INF; Ian Harrison, sr. C (Hope College); Justin Durant, sr. OF-3B; Brian Dombrowski, jr. 3B-C; Cory Faw, sr. OF; John VanHoef, soph. P-1B-OF.
OTHER RETURNEES: None.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Matt Lerhdahl, soph. P; Adam Borgen, soph. 2B; Nick LaFleur, soph. P-1B; Nieko Murphy, soph. CF.
KEY LOSSES: Tommy Eng, 3B-SS-P (All-League, All-District, All-Region; Adrian College); Ryan Norman, P-OF; Andrew Davenport, 2B.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: With only one returning starter, Athens took a hit last season with its youngest team in years. This year’s squad is still young with at least five sophomores on the roster and maybe more before season’s end. The Red Hawks should see improvement over last season and are still a team built for the near future.
Troy Bethany Christian
HEAD COACH: Mark Nowak, fifth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Temperance Stateline Christian in MACS state semifinals.
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference; Michigan Association of Christian Schools.
RETURNING STARTERS: Noah Francis, sr. 3B-P (All-League); Ryan Woodham, sr. 2B; Bret Hayhurst, sr. CF; Landon Cathers, sr. OF-P; Devin Goff, jr. 1B-OF.
OTHER RETURNEES:
KEY NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES: Tyler Parsons, C-INF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Bruins have been quite productive in the past five years, including a MACS state title in 2011 and state semifinals appearances in 2010 and 2012. There is still plenty of holdovers from last year’s team, including a large senior class that are in their fourth season of varsity baseball. The Bruins should be able to compete with defending state champion Davison Faith Baptist and Temperance Stateline Christian for top honors in the MACS this season.
Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes-
Clarkston Everest Collegiate Unified
HEAD COACH: Joe DeLisle, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 18-20, 13-3 CHSL-Intersectional Division (first).
LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Auburn Hills Oakland Christian (10-0); def. Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest in district finals (3-2); lost to Portland St. Patrick in D-4 regional semifinals (6-5).
CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: CHSL-Intersectional Division; MHSAA Division 4.
RETURNING STARTERS: Steven Scott, jr. P-SS; Colt Moran, sr. 3B-P; Mitch Lasceski, sr. OF-C; Eric Suran, sr. C-OF; Spencer Howell, jr. OF-P; Lucas Neme, soph. OF; Adam Goeringer, jr. 1B-P; Vinny Puma, jr.P-1B; Jake Glover, soph. 2B-SS-P; Sal Mastromatteo, jr. OF-U.
OTHER RETURNEES: Bill Mattise, jr.P-3B; Ben Bellestri, soph. P-C-2B; Jack Safko, soph. P-OF; Thomas Lannen, sr. OF.
KEY NEWCOMERS: None.
KEY LOSSES: Ben Kotz, OF.
OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Lakers only graduated one player who saw significant innings on the diamond, return 10 players that started potion of last season and bring back 14 total players from a squad that captured league and district crowns. All indicators point to the Lakers being a top-10 team in Division 4 and capable of a lot of damage in the regular season and postseason. Expectations have not been this high in years.
