FRIDAY’S FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Southfield sacks Oxford; Everest Collegiate rolls; Adams doubles up Farmington; Stoney Creek pounds Athens
OXFORD — Behind a 14-0 second quarter and a fourth quarter touchdown, Southfield maintained its position atop the OAA White Division standings Friday by handing host Oxford its fourth loss in six games, 21-0.
Jalen Brady threw for two touchdown passes, both in the second quarter, in helping the Blue Jays (5-1, 5-0) take a 14-0 lead at the half. Devontae Alfred was on the receiving end of a 84-yard scoring toss from Brady, while he caught another 17-yard strike later in the frame.
Adrian Carter scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth period, while Anthony Springer nailed all three extra points for Southfield.
Oxford slipped to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Wildcats failed to capitalize on three drives inside the red zone, including a fumble inside the 10 yard line and a drive that stalled on the Southfield 1-yard line.
CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 54, DEARBORN STAR INTERNATIONAL 6: Everest Collegiate continued its debut season hot streak, improving to 5-1 with this lopsided road win Friday.
Sal Mastermatteo finished 3-for-7 passing for 69 yards, but had three touchdown passes for the Mountaineers. Lucas Neme had 58 rushing yards on only four carries and a 44-yard touchdown run and Ben Bellestri chipped in with 45 rushing yards and another score.
Elliot Fenske, who hit six extra points in the game, caught a 22-yard scoring toss from Mastermatteo. Noah Beauchamp added a 17-yard TD reception, Adam Legg contributed a 10-yard TD run and Ben Idzik recorded touchdown reception of 18 and Joe Terbrack capped the scoring with a 19-yard run.
ROCHESTER ADAMS 42, FARMINGTON 21: Adams racked up a season-high 500 rushing yards on the night to double up Farmington in OAA White Division play.
Clarence Broadnax had 18 rushes for 148 yards and scored on runs of 16, 1, 28 and 28 yards for Adams (4-2, 4-1), which moved into a second-place tie in the division with two weeks to go.
Mott Sokol added 289 yards on 24 carries and added a 2-yard touchdown run before leaving the game with an injury. Backup quarterback Joey Prechtel contributed a 3-yard scoring run for the Highlanders.
NORTH FARMIGNTON 35, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 14: North Farmington scored the first 35 points and cruised from there in earning this OAA Blue Division home win Friday.
Chauncey Bridges scored on runs of 1, 63 and 60 yards for the Raiders (4-2, 4-2). Maher Tcholakian caught a 30-yard TD pass from Kyle Penny and Alone Mayweather also scored on a 36-yard run for North Farmington.
Sam Zapata hit all five extra points for the Raiders, who led 28-0 at the half and 35-0 entering the fourth quarter.
Alex Hodges returned an interception 32 yards for a score, while Josh Holloman had a 78-yard TD run for Avondale (2-4, 1-4).
ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 39, TROY ATHENS 14: Nick Rangos totaled 125 yards on 14 carries and rushed for scores of 35 and 2 yard, respectively, as the Cougars chalked up their fifth win of the season Friday at home in OAA Red Division play.
Joe Cox added 74 yards on nine rushes and one score on a 20-yard run, while Scott Reader added another touchdown run and caught a 54-yard TD heave for the Cougars (5-1, 4-1), who led 25-0 at the half.
Justin Allor finished 10-for-12 passing for 258 yards and two touchdown passes. Joe Allen and Reader each caught touchdown tosses and Rangos added four catches for 90 receiving yards for Stoney Creek, which collected 469 yards on offense.
Devin Terry caught a 30-yard TD strike from Alex Mussat, while Joe Coussens hauled in a 91-yard dart from Mussat for Athens (1-5, 1-5). Terry finished with 67 yards on five catches, while Lucas Bezzera had 70 receiving yards on three catches and Coussens two catches for 90 yards.
Mussat finished just 14-for-37 passing for 281 yards.
