Colts avenge Avondale, take OAA-White lead
TROY— For the moment, Troy is in the pole position.
The Colts took over the league lead in the OAA White Division boys basketball race Firday, topping Auburn hills Avondale 70-63 and avenging a league loss from back in December.
Rochester Stoney Creek’s upset of Ferndale also put Troy in sole lead, with four weeks to go.
James Young scored a team-high 22 points to lead Troy (11-2, 8-2). John Stibich added 14 points and Evan Mahone scored 10 for Troy, as the trio combined for nine three-pointers. Al Wise also scored eight and Al Wise added seven points for the Colts.
Troy led 37-32 at the half thanks to a 24-18 run in the second quarter. The Colts added Avondale, which led 14-13 after eight minutes to play, outscored Troy 18-16 in the final frame, but did not have enough in the tank to forge overtime.
Ray Tillman scored 25 points to lead Avondale (10-3, 8-3). Tony Harris added 19 points and Ryan Brancheau scored six for the Yellowjackets.
