Oakland’s Berschbach named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. – Oakland University’s Anne Berschbach earned The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday. For the second consecutive week an Oakland goalkeeper has garnered the award.
“Anne works extremely hard in practice and I’m very happy for her to receive this honor,” said head coach Nick O’Shea. “She exemplifies what it takes to be successful as a division I athlete.”
The senior keeper recorded seven saves for the week, and earned a shutout victory against Pittsburgh in her first career start for the Golden Grizzlies. Berschbach replaced O’Shea in the second half against UC Santa Barbara, collecting two saves. Her goals-against average for the year is perfect having not allowed a goal this season.
On the season the Algonac, Mich. native has seen action in three games for OU. She is 1-0-0 with the shutout victory over Pittsburgh, has maintained a perfect save percentage and has totaled eight saves on the year.
The Golden Grizzlies get back to action this Friday Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. as they host Butler at the OU Soccer Field.
