BOYS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Avondale stuns 10th-ranked Rochester Adams

AUBURN HILLS — Auburn Hills Avondale is a member of the OAA White Division. The Yellowjackets are still playing some bigger schools with tremendous success this season.

Behind two goals in the first half and another in the second half, Avondale turned back Division 1 10th-ranked Rochester Adams, 3-1, Tuesday in an OAA boys soccer crossover match. Adams is a member of the OAA Red Division.
Three different players scored goals for Avondale, which dropped from the Division 2 top 10 three weeks ago. The Yellowjackets also upended OAA-Red Division member Rochester 6-1 one day earlier.

Danny Swanson scored an unassisted goal and Zach Silkwood scored off an assist from Nate Chapman for a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Yellowjackets (10-4-2) pushed the lead to three goals with 20 minutes to play with a tally from Garrett Ritterhaus, who finished off a pass from Erik Koberstein.

Brandon Sloan scored a late goal for Adams (9-4-2).

Sophomore Ben Richter made eight saves for Avondale, while Grant Gibson took the loss in goal for Adams in his first start of the season.

OXFORD 4, PONTIAC 2: Oxford remained in the top three in the OAA Blue Division with this win Tuesday over the Phoenix. Travis Simat scored twice in the first half and Chase Garavaglia and Marco Bonfiglio scored in the second half for Oxford (9-3-2, 6-2-2).

BLOOMFIELD HILLS LAHSER 2, LAKE ORION 1: Connor McLaughlin and Kristian Rego scored in the first half Tuesday and the Knights (3-10-3, 1-6-1) held on for this OAA Red Division win over the Dragons. Jacob Sims scored for Lake Orion (6-9-0, 1-5-1). Logan McDonald gained the win in goal for Lahser.

CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 0, KIMBALL NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN 0: Tuesday’s non-league contest finished in a scoreless draw. Steven Scott made six saves for the shutout in goal for Everest Collegiate (2-6-2).

BLOOMFIELD HILLS CRANBROOK KINGSWOOD 3, PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 0: Cranbrook improved to 8-1-1 in CHSL AA Division with this shutout win Tuesday over the Fighting Irish. The Cranes scored twice in the first half and added a second-half goal to prevail. Stefan Withrow and John Whiting scored in the first half and Sam Orley tallied in the second half. Alex Rode pitched the shutout between the pipes.
