Notre Dame Prep trounces Lutheran North

PONTIAC — Pontiac Notre Dame Prep tied a school record and also put the finishing touches on the outright CHSL AA Division championship with a 55-3 trouncing of visiting Macomb Lutheran North Friday.

The Fighting Irish opened up a massive lead on the Mustangs, scoring five times in the first quarter alone for a 35-0 lead. By halftime, the advantage ballooned to 42-3. NDP scored six in the third quarter and seven more points in the fourth quarter to add to the route.

It marked the school’s 11th straight win dating back to last season, which tied the school mark set during the 1983 and 1984 seasons.

Danny Durkin paced NDP (7-0, 4-0) by going 8-of-10 passing for 152 yards and four touchdowns. Troy Sassack had 106 yards on only four catches and scored four touchdowns on the night. He had TD receptions of 13, 46 and 40 yards, while he returned an interception 23 yards for another score.

Jacob Romeo hauled in a 6-yard TD pass from Durkin and also opened up the scoring iwht a 46-yard punt return for another score. Jermiah Johnson (28-yard run) and Joe Kutil (1-yard plunge)

Yurie McGreevy was 7-for-8 on extra points.

John McGrath booted a 32-yard field goal for Lutheran North (3-4, 1-2).
