THURSDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Pontiac trumps West Bloomfield; Adams edges Oak Park
PONTIAC — Behind a 42-26 lead at the half, Pontiac cruised past West Bloomfield 72-55 in an OAA Red Division boys basketball contest Thursday.
The Phoenix led 22-12 after the first quarter, used a 20-14 run to go up by 16 at the half and blew the door open with a 23-3 spurt in the third quarter for a commanding 65-29 lead entering the fourth quarter.
West Bloomfield closed with a 26-7 run in the fourth quarter to trim the deficit down to 17 points.
Dijon Cogdell launched seven three-point bombs and finished with a season-high 27 points to lead Pontiac (9-5, 3-3). Jemarea Samples added nine points and both Derrick Kirk-Turner and Jarod Jones scored eight for the Phoenix.
Jake Daniels scored 16 to lead West Bloomfield (4-7, 1-5).
ROCHESTER ADAMS 60, OAK PARK 58: Adams exploded with a 24-11 fourth quarter to upend Oak Park in this OAA White Division contest.
Oak Park led 47-36 through three quarters of play.
Akhemji Williams scored 19, Zack Littleson added 17 points and Press Kampe chipped in with eight points for the Highlanders (7-4, 3-0), which is tied atop the league with Ferndale.
Ken Lockhart scored 14 for Oak Park (4-7, 1-2).
TROY 74, BERKLEY 55: Troy regrouped to move into third place in the OAA White Division. James Young scored 21, Maceo Baston added 18 points and Joe Lenard chipped in with 11 for the Colts, who led 42-23 at the half.
Damon Eldridge scored a game-high 27 for Berkley.
