PREP SOFTBALL: Adams sweeps Lamphere

ROCHESTER HILLS — Wins were hard to come by during the first half of the season for Rochester Adams’ softball team. The Highlanders have picked up the pace in recent weeks.

Adams torched Madison Heights Lamphere Monday for a double-header sweep, topping the Rams by identical 12-1 scores to move to 13-17 overall.

In the opener, Adams picked up 16 hits and built an 8-0 lead through two innings.  The Highlanders added three more runs in the fourth while giving up only one run in the third.

Kristen Koltvedt struck out six and walked none while giving up six hits to gain the pitching win in Game 1.

Maddy Phelps finished 3-for-4 that included a triple and drove in a run to lead the way. Samantha Baker was 2-for-3. With three RBI, Natalie Kinnie finished 2-for-3 and Megan Eggleton was also 2-for-3for the Highlanders in the opener

In Game 2, Kelly McCasland was 3-for-3 and plated three runs for Adams. Lauren Graber finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and Hannah Ballantine was 3-for-3 with an RBI for Adams, which again collected 16 hits.

The Highlanders scored one in the first, three in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth frame. Lamphere’s sole run came in the fifth.

McCasland pitched the first three innings for the win, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
