BOYS SOCCER: Avondale outguns Groves; Oxford battles Harrison to draw

AUBURN HILLS — Erik Koberstein scored three goals and Auburn Hills Avondale outlasted Birmingham Groves 5-3 Thursday in a wild OAA White Division boys soccer contest.

The game featured six goals in the first 35 minutes of play and was tied 3-3 at the half.

Koberstein scored the game-winner with 21 minutes to play and netted an insurance tally for Division2 second-ranked Avondale (6-0-0, 3-0-0). Augustine Herrerra tied the game late in the first half for the Yellowjackets.

Kerry Emertiyoma and Zach Silkwood also scored for Avondale, while Silkwood and Arnold Huautla had two assists each for the Yellowjackets.

Ian Mason scored twice and Louis Robinson added another goal for Groves (3-3-1, 2-1-0).

OXFORD 2, FARMINGTON HARISON 2: Jake Wysocki scored in the 10th minute and Wysocki set up Travis Simat for Oxford’s other tally in the second half.

Freshman Connor Bandel made eight saves for the Wildcats (4-4-1, 3-1-1), who moved into second place in the OAA blue Division with the draw.

Sebby Smith and Craig Smith scored for Harrison.
