FOOTBALL: Lakes rebounds to rout Cranbrook
WATERFORD — One week after suffering its first loss of the football season, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes was quick to return to its winning ways.
Jake Doetsch scored a pair of touchdowns and finished with 72 yards on 11 carries in leading the Lakers to a 49-6 CHSL Intersectional win over Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood.
Six different WOLL players scored touchdowns in the rout.
Richie Cross caught a 80-yard strike from Sal Mastromatteo and Doetsch tallied on a 2-yard run to put the Lakers in the lead for good.
After Cranbrook’s Joseph Myrick scored on an 8-yard run to trim the deficit ton14-6 early in the second quarter , the Cranes’ hopes were quickly wiped away.
Waterford Lakes scored 14 points in the second quarter and 35 unanswered points over the final three quarters to turn the game into a 43-point rout.
Lucas Neme added a 5-yard run, Doetsch scored his second 2-yard run, Zack Zednik caught a 24-yard pass from Mastromatteo, Sean Thomas chipped in with a 4-yard run and Christian Heiss plunged in from 1 yard out to cap the scoring.
Jason Howell was 7-for-7 on extra points for the Lakers (5-1, 4-1).
