BOYS SOCCER: Oakland Christian upends Harbor Beach to advance to regional finals
SAGINAW — Making long runs through the state tournament is nothing new for the Auburn Hills Oakland Christian’s boys soccer team.
The Lancers took another big step on Wednesday at Saginaw Nouvel Catholic.
Scott Howard scored in the first half and Daniel smith added an insurance tally in the second half in leading the fifth-ranked Lancers to a 2-1 regional semifinal win over Harbor Beach in a Division 4 regional semifinal.
Howard’s game-winning tally came only 14 seconds into the contest following a through pass from John VanNoord.
Senior Chris Polite set up Smith on a free kick to make it 2-1.
Stuart Sutherland made four saves on five shots for sixth-ranked Oakland Christian, which will face fifth-ranked Burton Genesee Christian on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Rece Essenmacher’s goal in the 19th minute tied the game for Harbor Beach, which lost to the Lancers in the regionals for the fourth time in five seasons, being outscored 13-2 in those five games.
