Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Daneen Kincaid, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 8-7-0, 3-2-0 OAA Red Division (third).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Waterford Unified (18-3) and Grand Blanc (19-13); lost to Hartland in D-1 regional finals (13-11).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Lauren Sharkey, sr. M (All-State Honorable Mention); Anna Gray, sr. M; Madison McGuire, sr. D; Lyndsey Pike, soph. A; Caitlin Toth, jr. D.

OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Mary Schlaff, soph. A.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Ryleigh McGregor, jr. D; Sabrina Parks, fr. M; Sierra Pass, jr. G.

KEY LOSSES:Stephanie Dllinger, M (All-State Second Team; all-time leading scorer in program history); Danielle Dunn, A; Rachel Manssur, D; Paige Miller, M; Kylie Kohu, G.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES:Clarkston is in its sixth season as a varsity program and like many OAA schools, has come a long ways since its inception. Last year the Wolves had their best season to date, advancing to the Division 1 regional finals (Elite Eight) before succumbing to state finalist Hartland in a narrow affair. This year’s team has to replace tons of firepower, including the program’s all-time leading scorer in Stephanie Dellinger, who is now an assistant coach, and has a new head coach if its own in Daneen Kincaid. Can the Wolves continue to climb in 2013? If a 5-0-0 start is any indication, then this could be another banner year.

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Will Booth, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 14-5-0, 1-4-0 OAA Red Division (fifth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 regional quarterfinals to White Lake Lakeland (20-10).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Rachel Cech, sr. M; Tiffanie Smrtnik, sr. G; Emily Hendrix, sr. M; Melissa O’Keefe, sr. D; Beth Giguere, sr. M; Miranda Lieblein, sr. M.

OTHER RETURNEES: Melissa Harcourt, sr. A; Nicole Cox, sr. D; Amanda Vaughn, sr. G/D; Laura Gonda, sr. A.

KEY LOSSES: Mallory DeMott, CM; Kaileen Tweedie, M; Madison Barry, D; Monica Arpino, M; Megan Kelley, D; Marta Davila, D.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Lake Orion advanced to the OAA’s top division last season and had its fair share of struggles against some of the region’s top competition. Outside of the league and the Dragons were just fine. This program is still relatively new, entering its sixth season of varsity play. The Dragons are 1-2-0 overall to start the season but have finished with over 10 wins each of the past two seasons, signaling tremendous growth since launching the program six years ago.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Andrew Bausack, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 5-10-0, 1-4-0 OAA White Division (fifth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood in D-2 regional quarterfinals (21-2).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA White Division; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Kayce Calcaterra, soph. A; Madi Eschberger, jr. A; Brenda Flasher, sr. A; Savannah Fullmer, soph. D; Riley Hayes, sr. M; Abi Hornung, jr. A;
Emma Kimmel, sr. M; Jordan Pieczynski, sr. M; Lauren Ubbing, sr. M; Abby Wrobel, sr. M; Caitlyn Wroblewski, sr. G.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Lauren Blankenburg, jr. D; Emily Diedrich, sr. M; Rachel Grzanka, soph. M; Claire Seely, soph. M; Maryann Stockard, jr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Brooklyn Allen, Brittany Basela, Brooke Grubb, Kayli Kammerer.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Although far from being a state powerhouse, the Wildcats made a grand jump in their second season, competing a league schedule and in the state tournament for the first time. A realistic goal for Oxford is to just improve and perhaps win a few more games and climb the league standings this season. A league championship might be a stretch, but finishing over the five-hundred mark for the first time is not.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Aurora Zinck.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-8-0, 4-2-0 CHSL-AA Division (second).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Birmingham Detroit Country Day in D-2 regional quarterfinals (16-10).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: CHSL-AA Division; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS:

OTHER RETURNEES:

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES:

OUTLOOK/NOTEABLES: The Fighting Irish finished second to Livonia Ladywood in the CHSL-AA Division and lost in the regional quarterfinals. Notre Dame Prep has high aspirations on improving in both of those areas this spring.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Dave Hamel, ninth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 13-3-0, 5-0-0 OAA white Division (first).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Birmingham Detroit Country Day in D-2 pre-regional (17-7).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Jessica Leininger, soph. A (led the team in scoring last year as a freshman with 47 goals; set school scoring record for freshmen; All-OAA);

OTHER RETURNEES: Kelly Krako, jr. M; Olivia Lord, jr. M (nine goals in 2012); Kayla Nowicki, jr. A; Anna Mazzara, jr. M; Megan Jose, jr. M/D; Asia Fitzgerald, sr. D; Sanna Good, jr. D; Abby Cowan, soph. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Megan White, jr. A; Summer Feliciano, soph. M; Liz Jordan, soph. A; Kelsey Rea, soph. M; Mackenzie Van Vleck, jr. G; Ally Achatz, jr. G;

KEY LOSSES: Aly Rosenau, G (All-State Second Team; currently starting for Michigan). Kylie Gray, A (38 goals, currently playing for Butler); Katie Krako, A (23 goals, six assists); Natalie Prisciandaro, M (17 goals); Jordin Pardoski, D/M (17 goals, four-year varsity performer); Samantha Blair, M (16 goals); Tara Kenny, A (16 goals); Karoline Newer, A (seven goals); Michaela Penberthy, D (Western Michigan); Rachel Gendich, D (Lawrence Tech’s); Kirsten Lau, D; .Renee Soulliere, A (transfer; nine goals as freshman).

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Rochester was hard hit by graduation, losing 12 players including one that transferred out of the area. Being promoted to the OAA Red Division will force the young Falcons to earn their wings in a hurry. This team brings back one of the area’s top players in Jessica Leininger, but with 10-12 players that started games last season gone and a roster full of little or no varsity experience, plus a tougher schedule, likely sends Rochester to the rebuilding project mode after winning back-to-back league championships.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Vittoria Wallace, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 9-10, 1-4-0 OAA White Division (fifth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-2 regional quarterfinals to Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart (16-6).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA White Division; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Krista Affholter, sr. M; Corrine Calhoun, sr. M; Julia Reso, sr. M; Ciera Curtis, jr. M; Emily Deane, jr. D; Briana Berger, jr. D; Hannah Hunstad, sr. M.

OTHER RETURNEES: Taylor Hayes, sr. D; Vivian Lin, sr. A.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Maddie Walsh, soph. M; Sarah Rolling, soph. M.

KEY LOSSES: Abi Dickinson, M; Lindsey Janes, M; Olivia Salmon, M.

OUTLOOK/NOTEABLES: The Highlanders competed remarkably better last season in their second campaign at the varsity level after splitting off from the Rochester Stoney Creek program. Adams is another team that is on the rise as it establishes experience.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Haley Noonan, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 6-7-0, 3-2-0 OAA White Division (third).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Warren Regina (14-10); lost to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood in D-2 regional semifinals (21-2).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA White Division; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Kendra Gill, jr. G (all-league); Chloe Guschewski, sr. M; Abby Porter, sr. M/D; Kelly McClennen, jr. D; Marley Watson, sr. D; Caity Wysocki, sr. A; Audrey Khoury, sr. D.
OTHER RETURNEES: Alicia Muniz, sr. A; Taylor Gunn, jr. A.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Megan Vazana, fr. A.

KEY LOSSES: Lost four starters to graduation.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: With 28 players and being in its fifth season, Stoney Creek hopes to contend in the OAA-White Division race this season with seven returning starters backstopped by one of the area’s top goalkeepers. Due to proximity, the Rochester schools have not had much success in the postseason, usually having to face prestigious private schools in the regionals, so the league title is given high regards.

Troy

HEAD COACH: Desiree Messina, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 12-9-0, 4-1-0 OAA Red Division (second).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Farmington Harrison/North Farmington Unified (14-0); lost to Birmingham Marian in D-1 regional semifinals (10-5).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Angela Xiao, soph. D; Haley Burns, sr. M (All-State Honorable Mention); Lilia Sachovska, sr. D; Carly Pollina, sr. A; Rachel Sacco, sr. G; Christina Shabet, jr. M; Cara Burns, soph. D/M; Theresa Burcz, sr. A.

OTHER RETURNEES:Claire Johnston, sr. D/M; Bridget Van Den Branden, jr. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Several.

KEY LOSSES: Kristine Barlow, A; Nicole Pollina, A; Dianna Maloney, A; Dianna Maolney, A; Sarah Gorgrave, A.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The always-competitive Colts are forced to play under their third head coach in three years this season with Desiree Messina replacing Nikki Atchoo at the helm. Troy has finished second to Birmingham Unified in three of the past four years in the OAA-Red with a third-place finish in 2011 and has not got past the regional semifinals in several years. Can the Colts find enough balance and firepower to move up the ladder this season?

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Rob Holder, 10th season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 1-16-0, 0-5-0 OAA Red Division (sixth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 regional quarterfinals to Birmingham Unified (21-9).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA White Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Shelby Halpin, sr. M; Morgan Bommarito, jr. M;
Becca Chen, sr. M; Jill Dougherty, jr. A; Jena Peterson, jr. A; Alex Catallo, sr. D; Dalia Khader, sr. D.

OTHER RETURNEES: Angelica Fernandez, sr. A; Alivia Baker, soph. G.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Alyssa Melotik, sr. D; Valentine Koch, jr. M;

KEY LOSSES: Monique Thakur, Lauren Bilinski.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: the Red Hawks have seen the extreme on both ends of the stick in recent years, reaching the state semifinals as recent as 2008 but recording one win last season and finishing winless in the OAA-Red. Athens will drop down to the OAA-White this season to try to rebuild behind seven returning starters.
