Oakland’s Carson named Summit League Player of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. – Sophomore Mike Carson was named The Summit League co-Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. The third baseman from Attica, Mich. wins the award for the first time in his career, after batting .600 for the week and driving in six runs.
Carson had at least two hits and an RBI in each of the Golden Grizzlies’ four games against South Dakota State. He drove in or scored 10 runs to account for 35.7 percent of Oakland’s offensive output in the series. Carson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the opening game of the series to lead Oakland in a 10-3 win over the league-leading Jackrabbits. He followed his opening game effort by going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run the second game of the series.
Throughout the series Carson hit the ball well, going 9-for-15 with four doubles. He finished the week with five extra-base hits and a 1.067 slugging percentage to go along with his .667 on-base percentage.
In Summit League games this season, Carson leads OU with a .571 slugging percentage and a .478 on-base percentage. He is currently hitting .331 for the year and improves his effort against league opponents with .371 batting average in league play.
Carson and the Golden Grizzlies will return to action on Tuesday when they host Western Michigan at the OU Baseball Field at 3 p.m.
