Athens trips up Avondale to set up showdown with Rochester Adams

TROY — After opening the season with a loss, Troy Athens has been unbeatable on the soccer pitch. The third-ranked Red Hawks made it 10 straight win Tuesday night.

Athens toppled Auburn Hills Avondale, 2-0, to set up a showdown at Rochester Adams Thursday night. The winner of the Red Hawks and Adams matchup on Thursday should claim the OAA Red Division title.

Avondale, which had its eight-game win streak snapped last week by Adams, lost for the second time in three games. The Yellowjackets are 8-3-0 overall, 5-3-0 in the league.

Haley Svrcina scored off a cornerkick from Olivia Brannon. A Miss Soccer candidate, Brannon scored in the 70th minute for Athens (10-1-0, 7-1-0) to cap the scoring.

Jenna O’Dell notched the shutout between the pipes.
