TUESDAY’S BOYS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Clarkston explodes on Rochester; Athens blanks Lake Orion

CLARKSTON — Behind three goals in each half, Clarkston came out of its scoring slump in a major way, topping Rochester 6-2 in a OA Red Division boys soccer match Tuesday.

The Wolves only led 3-2 at the half on tallies by Nick Dahl, Jordan Keift and Brad Schultz, the latter that put Clarkston up for good. Connor Bright, Joey DeFinis and Jacob Kornas scored in the second half for Clarkston (9-6, 4-4) while Bright had three assists in the game.

Travis Smith made six saves on eight shots for the Wolves.

Spiro Pilakoas and Jason Lee scored for Rochester (2-6-4, 1-4-2).

TROY ATHENS 4, LAKE ORION 0:
Athens turned a 1-0 halftime lead into a 4-0 victory behind goals from four different players. Sunny Shettigar finished with a goal and an assist for Athens. Max Klitzke scored for the third straight game and Alex Serwatka and Sandy Mouch also scored for the Red Hawks. Sam Ward picked up the shutout on six saves for Athens (7-3-1, 4-1-0).

OXFORD 2, BIRMINGHAM SEAHOLM 1: Oxford avenged an earlier defeat by downing the visiting Maples, the OAA Blue Division leaders. Marco Versteeg scored off a pass from Marco Bonfiglio for the game winner.  Doug Klimball’s header midway through the half tied the game for Oxford (7-3-2, 5-2-2). Ben Magdaleno made seven saves for thwin between the pipes. Andrew Pryka.scored on an assist from Tommy Bowman to stake Seaholm to the 1-0 lead early in the second half. Seaholm is 8-4 overall and 7-2-0 in league play.

AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 5, NORTH FARMINGTON 0: Avondale scored three goals in the first half and two more in the second half to cruise past the visiting Raiders in OAA White Division play. Nathan Chapman scored the first two goals and Geoffrey Williston, Joe Davison and Erik Koberstein also scored for Avondale (8-3-2, 6-3-1). Danny Swanson registered two assists and Ben Richter picked up the shutout on seven saves for the Yellowjackets. North Farmington drops to 1-7-2 overall and 0-6-1 in conference play.

PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 4, ANN ARBOR GABRIEL RICHARD 1: Jake Pushek, Ryan Pierce, Owen Snow and Ruairi McGreevy all scored for Notre Dame Prepin this CHSL AA Division contest. The Fighting Irish moved to 9-6 overall and 5-3 CHSL in the division with the win.

TROY 5, BLOOMFIELD HILLS LAHSER 2: Troy maintained it lead on the OAA Red Division field, racing out to a 4-0 halftime lead and cruising to the league win Tuesday. Filip Buniewicz, A.J. Kalina, Zac Doepke and Stephen Schmidt all scored in the first half and Ian Fox scored in the second half for Troy (12-1-0, 6-1-0). Kristian Rego and Erik Kelly scored for Lahser (2-9-3, 0-5-1).

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTAIN 2, LUTHERAN WESTLAND 1 (OT): Clifford Baxter had the game-winner in overtime, as Oakland Christian (10-1-1) remained in a first-place tie in the MIAC Blue Division. John VanNoord scored in the first half for the Division 4 second-ranked Lancers.

CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 2, MARINE CITY CARDINAL MOONEY 0: Adam Legg and Hugo Spinola each scored for Everest Collegiate in the first half. Steven Scott recorded three saves in goal for the win for the Mountaineers (2-6-2).
