DETROIT— Nothing was going to stop Pontiac Notre Dame Prep from a perfect regular season. Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard was just in the path of a storm.

The Fighting Irish, ranked in the top 10 in Division 4, put the finishing touches on a 9-0 season to carry some momentum into the postseason, rolling to a 38-7 victory over Gabriel Richard in the Prep Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit.

Notre Dame Prep, which has now won 13 straight games dating back to last season, a school record, opened up a 21-0 lead and never allowed Gabriel Richard any hope.

The Fighting Irish led 28-0 at the half and 35-0 before Richard was able to spoil the shutout.

A pair of long touchdown passes gave the Irish a 14-0 lead by the midpoint of the first quarter. Danny Durkin hooked up with Jacob Romeo for a 48-yard TD strike and followed that up with a 53-yard bomb to Troy Sassack.

Sassack caught another TD pass from Durkin, this time from 8-yards out, to give Notre Dame Prep (9-0) a 21-point cushion heading into the second quarter.

Shane Frakes added to Gabriel Richard’s misery in the second quarter by scoring on a 1-yard plunge, while Jermaih Johnson added a 50-yard TD sprint to kick off the running clock in the third quarter.

Nick Pauze gave Gabriel Richard (7-2) its only touchdown of the game, scoring on a 39-yard scamper to cut the deficit.

Ruairi McGreevy had the answer, nailing a 36-yard field goal to cap the scoring. McGreevy was also 5-for-5 on extra points in the game.

Both teams will await their postseason draw, which the Michigan High School Athletic Association will unveil at 6 p.m. Sunday night.
