Foley ends Oakland Christian’s district streak; Troy claims crown
ROYAL OAK — Madison Heights Bishop Foley ended a streak Friday night and the Ventures are advancing to the regional round thanks to a 3-2 Class C girls volleyball district finals victory over Auburn Hills Oakland Christian.
The Ventures escaped in a back-and-forth five-game marathon in a 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25 and 15-8 final at Royal Oak Shrine Catholic. The Lancers had won 10 straight districts, but this was their first season in Class C after competing in Class D since the early 1970s.
Danielle Partyka led Bishop Foley (26-2-4) while Annie Schmidt added 46 assists.
Darcy Johnston led Oakland Christian with 11 kills, 13 digs and four blocks while Erin Washington had 28 assists six blocks for Oakland Christian.
TROY ROLLS KETTERING
Troy captured its first district in three years Friday on its home court posting a 25-16, 25-22, 26-24 sweep of Waterford Kettering.
Olivia Parks had 19 kills and Nicole Hahn added 12 kills for Troy. Lindsay Moeller chipped in with 47 for the Colts (26-18-1).
