Third-period outburst helps Davison freeze Rochester United’s comeback bid

FLINT — Davison proved to have too much firepower for Rochester United.

The resulted in the Cardinals skating to a 6-3 non-conference boys hockey win at the Perani Arena.

Davison scored twice in the final period to break the game open after leading only 4-3 with one period to go.

Anthony Facca scored two quick goals in the last minute of the second period to swing the momentum back in favor of United and cut the deficit down to one-goal. Facca had all three goals for United in the game but the Cardinals proved to be a worthy opponent..

The third period belonged to the Cardinals with Robert Crawford scoring a highlight reel, unassisted goal after creating a neutral zone turnover and skating past United’s defense and then stick-handling by the goal tender for a two-goal lead. Less than a minute later Davison’s Drew Vandeputte scored his second of the game from Robert Crawford to up the lead to 6-3 and secure the game for the Cardinals.

Earlier in the game, Davison responded from the first goal by United’s Facca (from line-mates Brent Boudreau and Marshall Bowery) with four unanswered goals of its own.

First, the Cardinals’ Alex Dunckel, scored an unassisted goal from a mid-ice turnover and break-in — this was followed by goals from Drew Vandeputte (assists from Robert Crawford and Alex Dunckel), Brandon Pirtle (assists from Steven Stull and Jacob Arrand) and Steven Stull (from Brandon Pirtle).
