AUBURN HILLS — Behind a furious fourth-quarter rally, Auburn Hills Avondale kept its dream alive of defending its district trophy by rallying past Troy, 46-45, Wednesday night in a Class A district semifinal.

Troy (9-12) led 31-28 entering the fourth quarter, only to see the host Yellowjackets go on an 18-14 run over the final eight minutes to advance to the district finals.

Avondale will face Waterford Kettering at 7 p.m. Friday for the district championship. Avondale has lost to Kettering in the season opener the past two years.

“I am proud of my girls to tough it out,” said Avondale coach Dave Muczynski.  “We struggled with our finishing tonight and the girls hung tough and pulled out the victory. We made the shots when we needed to do and did enough to move on to the championship game.”

Sabria Cotton scored 16 and Karin Moss added 10 points, all in the second half, for the Colts, who lost to Avondale for the third time this season. Sydney Heath also contributed 10 points for Troy.

“Karin Moss and Sabria Cotton were solid for Troy,” continued Muczynski. “Karin sacrificed her scoring to make the team better, and she did just that. She had a great floor game. Sabria was unstoppable, between her drives and her three-point shooting, We had a tough time containing her.”
