BOYS BASKETBALL: Holly’s Woodruff drains 10 three-pointers in Bronchos’ win over rival Brandon

HOLLY — Kyle Woodruff might only be a freshman, but the talented sharpshooter is already making waves.

Woodruff scored a career-high 32 points Friday against arch-rival Ortonville Brandon, but more importantly scored the nets with 10 3-pointers.

Woodruff’s total is one of the highest totals in state history, especially for a freshman at the varsity level. His outburst helped the Bronchos past a 69-59 Flint Metro League victory over Brandon.

Holly (9-5, 8-4) led 19-14 after the first quarter only to see Brandon use a 14-12 edge to climb to within 31-28 at the half.

Brandon closed the gap with a 17-14 run in the third stanza, pulling the Blackhawks into a 45-45 tie entering the fourth quarter.

Holly pulled away win the fourth quarter with a 24-14 spurt.

Joshua Simms added 12 points and Adam Tooley chipped in with seven points for the Bronchos, who made 13 3-pointers overall.

Quintook Cook led Brandon with 16 points. Josh Lambert added 12 points and both Dylan Morris and Alex Bageris followed with eight points each for the Blackhawks.
